Legal Analysis of the Tramadol Case of Imam Masykur and the Cage of the Langkat Regent from the Perspective of the Theory of Justice

This paper examines two glaring cases of human rights violations in Indonesia, namely the murder of Imam Masykur by TNI personnel and the practice of human cages by the Regent of Langkat, through the perspective of classical and modern justice theories. Using a normative legal approach, this study analyzes how the two cases reflect abuse of power that leads to the state's failure to protect vulnerable groups, while also demonstrating the weak implementation of distributive, retributive, and restorative justice. The theories of Plato, Aristotle, John Rawls, and Roscoe Pound are used to assess the extent to which the principles of justice are implemented in the verdicts and law enforcement for the two incidents. The results of the study show that there is a sharp disparity between the magnitude of the violation and the punishment imposed, as well as minimal restitution for the victims. As a suggestion, judicial reform is needed that emphasizes equal access to justice, compensation for victims of human rights violations, and the imposition of more proportional sanctions on perpetrators of power in order to create a deterrent effect and restore public trust in the legal system
